4. The Story Of Human Connect - Stagehands of Success
There is no place on the globe where there is no dependency on connectivity. We normally take this for granted and only realize how critical it is- just like the air we breathe- when we lose it. When the micro-planning for the execution of the Guinness World Record attempt was being deliberated in the Head office, connectivity was taken for granted. When the video conferencing call took place with the Guinness World Record team in the UK, the Core planning team realized how important having seamless connectivity is going to be!
Mana Camp is a location like it is on another planet! Internet connectivity and all other services associated with it are like a miracle when they are happening! The reception of all phone services is disturbingly poor causing connectivity constant annoyance to the personnel. With this backdrop, the pressure on the IT team of Rajpath Infracon was already high. A dedicated communication tower for was not really serving its purpose at all. This was a challenge everyone assumed would be managed without much pain. Little did they all know what a task it was going to be when the time came.
Besides this, there were other expectations too! The Jawali-sutra software had to be developed, tuned and tested so that resource management and monitoring would happen with accuracy. And it would be able to compute the distance paved based on the material carried by the tippers from the plants and the chainage figures. The weighbridge machine had to be accurately calibrated and set to quantify precisely the weight of the material loaded and unloaded, the printers and such equipment like the connectivity dongles had to be working without issues, constant data backup of the much 24 hour videos being shot, and their storage had to be administered without any goof-ups. Little do we realize how much toil there is behind the scenes when everything is running smoothly. And this is exactly what the IT team at Rajpath was doing even before the ordeal for 5 days began.
They worked quietly, without show or noise, without complaint or protest, round the clock for full 5 days as the main team did, during the attempt. They knew what was required and they arranged for it. Even a television screen in the war room to display all the breaking news or the real time data of distance covered vis-à-vis target time was put up, thoughtfully. They were present where an when they were needed and quietly provided the required assistance from the silliest of support to resolving technical issues that were really a trial owing to situations beyond their control. They may have been seen sitting rocking a chair or having a laugh around with the team, but those were the few moments they had hard earned after having a sword, constantly hanging on their heads. The dedicated efforts of the IT team did not go waste after all. The media continued to report smoothly online more than 90% of the total time, all the live relays were transmitted and uploaded in time and smoothly, all reports and emails continued to go to and forth without remaining undelivered and all the communication carried on seamlessly.
A 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝 is a person who works backstage or behind the scenes, and never gets to share the stage. Our stagehands indeed deserve this place in the human connect stories as they have earned this acknowledgement from the entire team
