Much of the major debate on women’s issues among NGOs during the past few years has focussed on moving from a ‘women-centred’ approach to a ‘gender’ approach particularly in the context of their contribution to development. Health of Women has been one of the most recent issues to be approached in this way. It is now recognised and acknowledged that gender inequalities in many different sectors can have an adverse effect on women’s health.
The non-involvement of women in decision-making on resource allocation for the health sector, in particular the kinds of health services that only women will need, is a serious cause of concern. This can be attributed to the lack, or defective distribution of, resources in the health sector. Today, it is this area needs not just attention but also a cognizant caring helping hand.

The Rajashree Kadam Pratisthan was established with a clear intent focus on improving the lives of the adopted communities in the town of Deolali Pravara, in the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra, India. This was a small village then, where the Chairman and Managing Director of Rajpath Infracon, Mr. Jagdish Kadam lived and was brought up and schooled. The Kadam family hence believe they owe a lot to this village and have taken up value-adding services and activities for the development and progress of the communities in this town.

The Rajashree Kadam Pratisthan has been in the forefront to promote and developing a comprehensive, holistic approach to health services for women. The NGO realised that little recognition has been given to the many adverse factors that affect the health of women because they are women, or because women are more seriously affected by them. As a result, insufficient attention was given to raise the awareness and assure them that medical remedies are now possible and available. The women have now been sensitized to taking care of their hygiene and health issues. They understand that they too have a right to the enjoyment of good health and that discrimination against them in this context amounts to a violation of their human rights.

The Partisthan (NGO) held a Breast Cancer Awareness Camp in the town of Deolali Pravara. It was heartening to see the women of all ages and communities attend the lectures and listen and interact with their humble queries. The message is clear, we are here to help and assist as and when needed. We stand committed. We value your life and what you do with it, for our homes, community, country and thee world.
