"Kadam Sir is everything for me"

 

Virendra Singh, the driver of one of the tandem rollers, from Bihar had tears in his eyes. It was an overwhelming moment for a simpleton like him, who's only ambition was to see his Leader from close quarters! Mr. Jagdish Kadam was being felicitated by numerous celebrities, famed local personalities, and who's who on his birthday, today. Virendra Singh stood humbly, shoulders stooping, not even looking straight at his Boss.

 

"Namaste" he softly wished me. "Did you think I was really going to run you over on the inauguration day?" he asked me. It took a while for me to recollect how a tandem roller had abruptly stopped within a foot, as I was crossing the freshly paved bituminous concrete, to grab a picture for social media. I smiled meekly nodding my head, and Virendra Singh then opened up.

 

He said he was the most experienced tandem roller operator on the team, the senior most. With over 14 years experience, he was associated with Rajpath Infracon for the past 3 years. In these 3 years he had just heard inspiring stories about Kadam sahab and his knowledge and humane demeanor , but never got an opportunity to see him. This was like having a 𝑑𝑎𝑟𝑠ℎ𝑎𝑛 or vision of his God, he exclaimed! Tears of gratitude began rolling down his eyes... He went on to add that he always believed that this record will definitely happen, because Kadam sahab said so. " How can I let down a man with such conviction? Why do I need to look anywhere else when I have received what I came here for? ", he rhetorically asked.

 

The quotient of trust and faith was so high in Virendra Singh's heart, I asked if I could record his bite. He readily nodded, but shyed out before the camera. I realised later, he was overcome with emotion, he was speechless! A sentiment so unadulterated, won this space on the 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭 today- especially when we go on to make a new Guinness World Record today. It is with team members like this, that great things are accomplished!
